Swim Meet 101

  • Please download the Swimtopia app. This will allow you to declare whether or not your swimmer will attend each meet, and where you can sign up for your volunteer position. The app also lets you see the events your swimmer is entered in on the day of the meet. After the meet (sometimes during the meet), the app will update with your swimmer’s times and results.
  • Swimming is an individual and team sport. Swimmers have the opportunity to place in their individual events and relay events, which contribute to the overall team score.
  • We want all swimmers to stay for the entire meet, and cheer on their teammates.
  • There is NO alcohol allowed! If you are found to have alcohol, you will be asked to leave.
  • Swimmers will need:
    • Suit
    • Team Cap
    • Goggles
    • Towel(s)
    • Dry clothes: It can get cold during and after meets. Swimmers also like to put on t-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts or sweatpants between events.
    • Backpack, bag, etc. to keep belongings together
    • Sunscreen
    • Spare swim cap and goggles
    • Hair ties for long hair
    • Water
    • Healthy Snacks - We don’t know which pools will have a snack bar, or what they offer.
  • Family and Friends will need:
    • Toys, entertainment, snacks, sunscreen for the siblings.
    • Sharpie: Some swimmers like to write their events on their arms for easy reference.
    • Cooler with drinks and snacks (Again, NO ALCOHOL per SJSSA rules)
    • Money for the snack bar: Some snack bars may take payment apps like Venmo, and some may be cash only. It’s best to come prepared for both.)
    • Hats, sunglasses, and pop-up tent or shade umbrella. Picnic blankets, folding chairs
  • Swimmers need to arrive early for team warm ups. Coaches will let swimmers know what time to arrive.
  • Listen to the announcer to know what events are in the water or staging so that your swimmer does not miss their event.
  • Swimmers need to be on deck ready to line up a few events before they are to swim.
  • This is a summer recreational swim league. No one is making the olympics or getting a college scholarship based on our meets. We are all here for the kids. Encourage your swimmer(s) to show good sportsmanship, and to be kind and courteous. This goes for family and friends too!
  • Everyone helping run the meets is a volunteer. Before you complain, ask yourself… “Have I volunteered? Is there anything I can do to help out more?”
